New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education on Wednesday cancelled the Class 10 tests and held off the Class 12 examinations in view of the massive surge in Covid-19 cases throughout India.

This was chosen at a conference that was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank , the principal secretary to the PM, the Cabinet Secretary, the school and college secretaries and other top authorities were present.The Council for the Indian School Certificate Assessments, that administers the ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) tests, is, nevertheless, yet to take a choice on when they are to be held.

The education minister said after the conference that the CBSE examinations for Class 12 that were to be held from Might 4 to June 14 have been postponed.

He said the situation would be evaluated on June 1 by the board and information would be shared subsequently.

A notification of a minimum of 15 days will be provided before the start of the examinations.The minister said the outcomes of the Class 10 examinations, which now stand cancelled, will be prepared on the basis of an unbiased requirement to be established by the board.

He said that any candidate who is not pleased with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be offered an opportunity to sit in an examination as and when the conditions contribute to hold tests.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister restated that the wellness of the students needs to be the federal government's leading concern.

He also stated the Centre would keep in mind the very best interests of students and ensure their health is taken care of and also that their scholastic interests are not harmed.Noting that the pandemic was seeing a revival in lots of regions of the country, schools were already shut in 11 states.

Lots of states, including Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, have currently postponed their board assessments.

An education ministry statement stated: Unlike state boards, CBSE has an all-India character, and for that reason, it is important to hold exams simultaneously throughout the nation.

A large number of trainees, academics and political leaders were demanding the cancellation of the board tests due to the growing Covid-19 cases.

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh wrote to the Centre looking for postponement of the board exams.

Mentioning the rising cases, he stated quite not surprisingly, the consistent boost in Covid-19 cases in many states of the nation has created a sense of fantastic apprehension and distress amongst trainees and moms and dads alike regarding the board assessments for Classes 10 and 12 .

He added: In Punjab too, the state government is receiving demands from different quarters looking for postponement of the board evaluations by the State board in addition to by the CBSE and ICSE.

On Tuesday, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had actually advised the Centre to cancel the board tests in wake of the increase in the variety of coronavirus cases in the national capital.

Inviting the Centre's decision, he said it would supply terrific relief to trainees and their parents.

This is great relief for lakhs of students and their parents, he tweeted.Last week, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had likewise urged the minister to step in and direct the CBSE to reconsider its decision to proceed with the board exams in May.
