NEW DELHI: Shares of Uttam Value Steels (down 20 per cent), Samtel Color (down 12.50 per cent), MVL (down 10 per cent) and Talwalkars Better Value Fitness (down 10 per cent) plunged 10 per cent on NSE during Friday's trade, defying the positive sentiment of broader markets. Shares of TN Telecom (down 5 per cent), SEL Manufact (down 5 per cent), Shilpi Cable Technologies (down 5 per cent), Times Guaranty (down 4.97 per cent), Vakrangee (down 4.97 per cent) and KM Sugar Mills (down 4.94 per cent) declined up to 5 per cent on NSE. Equity benchmarks Nifty50 and Sensex were in the positive terrain tracking global cues.

Investor sentiment got a boost after industrial production grew faster than 7 per cent for the fourth month running in February while consumer inflation moderated to a five-month low in March, providing a double boost for the economy.

IIP growth was 7.4 per cent in January while consumer inflation stood at 4.44 per cent in February.

The BSE Sensex was up 180 points at 34,281, while the NSE Nifty50 index was up 51 points at 10,510 around 11:25 am (IST). Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 pack, 40 were trading in the green, while 10 were in the red.

Abbott India, Apollo Tyres, Britannia Industries, Chambal Fertilizers Chemicals and Escorts were among the stocks that hit fresh 52-week highs on NSE during Friday's trade. On the other hand, Balrampur Chini Mills, Jaypee Infratech and Vakrangee were among the stocks that hit fresh 52-week lows on NSE on Friday.
