The Kajaki Dam's hydro-electric plant in Helmand province is scheduled to be switched on this week after repairs were completed on the turbines. Local officials said once up and running, the plant is expected to produce 100 megawatts of electricity & for Helmand and Kandahar residents. Experts have meanwhile said, this step is important in terms of producing energy and managing the country's water supplies. Dry lands will be irrigated by this dam, Afghanistan's money will not leave the country [to pay for power] and job opportunities will be provided for the residents of this province,& said Abdul Nasir Reshtai, an economic analyst.
