NEW DELHI: The countrys biggest helicopter manufacturing facility at Tumakuru in Karnataka, which will initially produce around 30 light choppers annually, will be committed to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.The greenfield helicopter factory of defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has actually been prepared to become a one-stop solution for all helicopter requirements of the nation, the defence ministry stated on Saturday.The factory, the foundation stone for which was laid by the PM Modi in 2016, will initially produce the native three-tonne class light utility helicopter (LUH), which is now prepared after being flight-tested extensively.The factory will likewise be enhanced to produce the light fight helicopters (LCHs) and Indian multi-role helicopters (IMRHs).
It will likewise be utilized for MRO (maintenance, repair work and overhaul) of LCHs, LUHs, IMRHs and civilian innovative light helicopters (ALHs) in the future.
The factory will also cater for prospective exports of civilian LUHs in the future.
Overall, HAL plans to produce more than 1,000 helicopters in the range of 3-15 tonnes, with an overall organization of over Rs 4 lakh crore over a duration of 20 years, the official said.The factorys distance with the existing HAL centers in Bengaluru will enhance aerospace manufacturing community in the region as well as support ability facilities advancement such as schools, colleges and residential areas.
