In a significant move towards normalizing relations, Turkey and Egypt have exchanged diplomats for the first time in a decade, as stated in a joint announcement issued by both countries.Salih Mutlu Sen has been appointed Turkey’s envoy to Egypt, while Amr Elhamamy will serve as the Egyptian ambassador to Turkey. The decision to elevate diplomatic relations was made by the respective presidents of Turkey and Egypt to improve bilateral ties and benefit the citizens of both nations, according to the joint statement released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

(Photo Internet reproduction)The severed ties between Ankara and Cairo originated in 2013 when Egypt accused Turkey of exerting excessive influence on public opinion and attempting to create instability in the country. The Egyptian government had been overthrown earlier that year in a coup backed by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, causing tensions between the two nations due to Turkey and Qatar’s support for the deposed administration. After years of frozen relations, Turkey and Egypt have recently taken steps toward rebuilding their diplomatic rapport. The decision to exchange ambassadors indicates readiness for political dialogue and signifies the recognition that both countries cannot expect fundamental changes from one another. This development marks an important milestone in their efforts to restore diplomatic ties.
