Doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) gave CPR to a two-year-old mid-air as she was "unconscious and cyanosed." The news has drawn the attention of the country and good wishes are pouring in for the doctors."While returning from ISVIR- on board Bangalore to Delhi flight this evening, in Vistara Airline flight UK-814- A distress call was announced.It was a 2 year old cyanotic female child who was operated outside for intracardiac repair , was unconscious and cyanosed," AIIMS, New Delhi has tweeted from X, formerly Twitter."Immediately child was examined - his pulse was absent, extremities were cold , child was not breathing with cyanosed lips and fingers, On air- Immediate CPR was started and with limited resources, using skilled work and active management by team, Successfully IV canulla was placed , oropharyngeal airway was put and emergency response was initiated by whole team of residents on board- and the baby for brought to ROSC- return of circulation.
It was complicated by another cardiac arrest for which an AED was used.
For 45 mins , baby was resuscitated and flight was routed to Nagpur.
On reaching Nagpur, child was handed over in stable hemodynamic to the pediatrician, the tweet adds.Five doctors--Dr Navdeep Kaur- SR Anesthesia, Dr Damandeep Singh- SR Cardiac Radiology, Dr Rishab Jain- Ex SR AIIMS Radiology, Dr Oishika- SR OBG and Dr Avichala Taxak- SR Cardiac Radiology-- were on-board.Cyanosis is a condition where there is low oxygen content in the blood.
It refers to a condition in which the skin and the mucus membranes change to bluish color.
This bluish color is due to the deoxygenated hemoglobin in the blood.
There are several conditions that increase the risk of cyanotic heart diseases in kids like chemical exposure, genetic diseases like Down syndrome, trisomy 13, Turner syndrome, Marfan syndrome, and Noonan syndrome, infections during pregnancy, abnormal blood sugar, and exposure to certain drugs during pregnancy.
The common symptoms of the disease are breathing difficulty or dyspnea, sudden change in skin color especially on the lips, figners and toes; fainting spells, chest pain, feeding problem, reduced appetite, puffy eyes or face and fatigue all the time.
