Brazil

In a new development, Brazils opposition met on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, to discuss strategies for the year.Their strategy focuses on reducing tensions with the Supreme Court, ensuring Bolsonaros freedom and eligibility for future elections, and strategically engaging with the ruling PT party. They aim to create laws that strengthen the Legislatures role and refine the separation of powers. The group acknowledges their limited influence over the Supreme Court but agrees on a more thoughtful public approach.
They will carefully choose their battles.Focusing on this years municipal elections, they prepare for 2026 to boost the right wings strength and readiness.Making Bolsonaro eligible again is crucial, despite his ineligibility until 2030 due to a Superior Electoral Court (TSE) ruling for abuse of political power on June 30, 2023.They also plan to avoid legal issues that could lead to Bolsonaros arrest.

They want to win up to 1,500 mayoral seats across Brazil. This benchmark was almost reached by the center-right MDB party before.
Party President Valdemar Costa Neto revealed the plans.A strong team will lead the campaign.
The first election round is set for October 6, 2024.In 2020, PL secured 349 mayoral spots.
This marked an increase of 52 since 2016.
