Afghanistan

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in his latest report on Afghanistan that although the Islamic Emirate (IEA) has achieved administrative consolidation in the political, security and economic fields after two and a half years in power, they face growing internal disputes over key issues, including the enforcement of drug prohibition.According to the report, no progress has been made so far in forming an inclusive government and ensuring human rights, especially women's rights. In this quarterly report, Guterres has provided an update on the activities of the United Nations in Afghanistan and reviewed the economic, security and humanitarian situation.Guterres also said in the report it was important for the United Nations to continue its activities in Afghanistan and expressed his satisfaction with the work being done by UNAMA chief Roza Otunbayeva and her team.According to the report, nearly half of the country's population lives in poverty, and women and children are more affected by this situation.Guterres once again called the deprivation of Afghan women and girls from education deeply worrying and added that since prohibitions are still in place, the beginning of the new academic year will be a sad day for Afghan girls and the world. He once again called for the immediate lifting of the ban on girls& education.Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Afghanistan on Wednesday.Roza Otunbayeva, the special representative of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan, will present her report on the situation in Afghanistan in the last three months. The United Nations Security Council is holding a meeting regarding the mission of this organization's delegation in Afghanistan.
In the continuation of this meeting, Roza Otunbayeva, the special representative of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan, is going to talk to journalists in the Security Council,& said Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesman of the United Nations Secretary General. But the Islamic Emirate says that the United Nations report repeats previous UN statement. While Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, did not comment on the upcoming Security Council meeting, he has in the past called the UNAMA mission in Afghanistan a failure and considered the appointment of a special representative for Afghanistan unnecessary. The United Nations Security Council is holding a medeting to resolve the Afghanistan issue, based on the independent evaluations of Feridon Sinirlioglu.
