This day is observed on Baishakh Krishna Aunsi of the Nepali calendar.People celebrate the day by presenting their mothers with clothes, gifts, sweets, fruits and other delicacies as an expression of love and gratitude, and receive blessings from them.
On this day thousands of devotees visit Matatirtha Kunda (pond) to pay homage to their departed mothers.
According to hindu myth, people who have lost their mothers can see their faces in the kunda on the new-moon day of Baisakh.
The devotees offer sweets and flowers to the pond with the belief that their mothers would accept the offering and bless them.Matatirtha is a small village which is located in Chandragiri Municipality of Kathmandu district.
