Authorities in Argentina said they have revealed a supposed Russian spy network operating in the nation to promote Moscows interests through disinformation campaigns.Presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni said intelligence officers recognized an organization called The Company, apparently connected to Russias government and Project Lakhta, which the United States claims is a Moscow-based operation engaged in political interference.Russian national Lev Konstantinovich Andriashvili, based in Argentina, was said to head the company together with his partner Irina Yakovenko, likewise a Russian resident.
Both were responsible for getting funding and promoting relate to local partners, Adorni said in a declaration on Wednesday.The organizations objective was to form a group of individuals faithful to Russias interests so that they would perform disinformation campaigns versus the Argentine state, the spokesperson added.
The Company allegedly produced and disseminated content on social media, affecting local civic organizations and NGOs, as well as established focus groups with Argentine residents and obtained political details for Russia.
Argentina will not be subjected to the impact of any other nation, Adorni stated, adding that the safety of Argentines is not a secondary matter.
