
Phase one of the Uma Oya project has been completed, with the first unit of the two-turbine hydro-project having been connected to the National Grid on Saturday (27 Jan.), Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijsekera revealed.Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Minister revealed that the first unit turbine of 60MW, of the 120MW Uma Oya hydro-project was completed yesterday, despite the extended delays caused due to various factors.With the long delays due to the challenges of political protests against the project, covid pandemic - the financial crisis the project teams - officials have been able to successfully complete phase one, the Minister said, adding that phase two of the project is expected to be completed by mid-February.
