
The Commissioner General of Excise, M.J.
Gunasiri, stated that claims made by certain parties regarding the alleged illegal issuance of a large number of excise licenses during the Presidential Election period are false.He clarified that only 172 excise licenses have been issued since May 2023 in accordance with a government policy decision.The Commissioner General further noted that these 172 licenses issued have generated an income of Rs.
2.2 billion.Meanwhile, the Excise Commissioner General also said that all the relevant companies have agreed to settle their tax arrears for 2023 and 2024 before November 30.
