Mexican President Andrs Manuel Lpez Obrador has stated Mexico will only engage in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict if both parties express a desire for peaceful solutions. This statement was in response to the upcoming peace talks slated for August 5th and 6th in Saudi Arabia, as The Wall Street Journal reported.Countries like India and Brazil will participate in the negotiations.
However, Russias invitation remains absent.Lpez Obrador declared Mexicos stance to Russian news agency Sputnik, saying that Mexico is ready to collaborate in fostering peace if both parties show the willingness for reconciliation. He also recalled his earlier proposal for a committee to facilitate dialogue, which includes Pope Francis, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.He emphasized Mexicos participation in conflict resolution is conditional on the involvement of both Russia and Ukraine. The Mexican leader has previously upheld Mexicos neutrality in the conflict, stating that the nation will not allow itself to be dictated on whom it should maintain relationships. He also expressed openness to signing a joint peace declaration on the Russia-Ukraine standoff. This declaration could potentially involve various Latin American nations, particularly those comprising the Latin American and Caribbean Alliance against Inflation.
