Oil futures rallied on Wednesday, spurred by a surprising drop in United States inventories and a weaker dollar.
The uptick solidified late in the day, lifting the market mood.West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for August jumped 1.29%, closing at $83.88 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.Similarly, Septembers Brent crude rose 1.28% to $87.34 per barrel on the Intercontinental Exchange.
Early trading had already seen modest gains. These expanded after the United States Department of Energy reported a dramatic 12.157 million barrel decrease in crude stocks for the week ending June 28.Market analysts had only anticipated a 1.1 million barrel decline.

Why does this matter? Oil prices influence global economics and politics. They affect everything, from the cost of goods and travel to the financial health of energy-dependent nations.A significant inventory drop in the worlds largest oil consumerthe United States can trigger worldwide market shifts.Furthermore, Federal Reserve policies on interest rates can sway economic stability, impacting not just national but global markets.Hence, shifts in oil prices and United States economic policies are pivotal and watched closely by traders, governments, and consumers worldwide.
