China has significantly increased its military presence around Taiwan, raising tensions in the region.
The Taiwanese Defense Ministry reported a near doubling of Chinese warships in nearby waters.This surge comes after Taiwanese President Lai Ching-tes recent visit to Pacific allies, including stops in Hawaii and Guam.
The number of Chinese warships rose from 8 to 14 within 24 hours.Additionally, seven military aircraft and four balloons were detected near Taiwan.
One balloon reportedly brushed over the islands northern tip.These actions have prompted Taiwan to elevate its alert level to high and initiate combat readiness drills.
Chinas military deployment extends beyond Taiwans immediate vicinity.Nearly 90 Chinese naval and coastguard ships are operating in waters near Taiwan, southern Japanese islands, and the East and South China Seas.
