Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan said that India's trade performance is impressiveAs India's exports have shown significant improvement,Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan on Thursday while reacting to the data, said that merchandise exports, excluding oil and lubricants as well as gems and jewellery, haveincreased by 45.96 per cent in May 2021over the corresponding period last yearand by 11.51 per cent over the same period of 2019-20."India's export performance continues to be impressive," he said, while speaking to media persons.The merchandise exportsin May 2021 showeda significant growth of 67.39 per cent over the corresponding period last year and 7.93 per cent over May 2019 level.Merchandise imports registered a positive growth of 68.54 per cent during May 2021 comparedto the same period last year.
As compared to May 2019, imports have declined by (-) 17.47 per cent during May 2021.Exports were not immediately affected by the imposition of the lockdown across various states to contain the devastating resurgence of Covid-19 spread from April.
