Aadhaar-PAN Linking Last Date June 30, 2021: Linking the two is compulsory to file income tax returnsThe government has set thelast date for linking the Permanent Account Number (PAN) with the Aadhaar cardasJune 30, 2021.
In casethe PAN card is not linked with Aadhaar card, it is likely to become inoperative and may attract a late fee of Rs 1,000.
Earlier, the government had set thedeadline as March 31, 2021, to link the two identification documents,after extending it severaltimes.
On March 31, the last date was again extended to June 30 to provide relief amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Aadhaar,also known as the Unique Identity number,is a 12-digit number issued by theUnique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
PAN is a 10-digitalphanumeric number that is allotted by the Income Tax (I-T)department.
In September 2018, the Supreme Court upheld theconstitutional validity of the Aadhaar Act, andruled itdoes notviolate theright to privacy when one agrees to share biometric data.Linking the PAN and Aadhaar card is a simple process as the Income Tax departmentallows individuals to link the two unique identification numbers onits website.
