India FDI in April 2021: The country attracted inflow of $6.24 billion in April, government data showedIndia has attracted a total foreign direct investment (FDI)inflow of $6.24 billion inApril 2021, which is 38 per centhigher compared to the total inflow of $ 4.53 billion in the corresponding month last year.
In April, the totalFDI equity inflows amounting to $4.44 billion were reported in the country, which is 60 per cent higher compared to$ 2.77 billion reported in the same month last year, government data showed on Wednesday, June 23.

The report stated that the second wave of COVID-19in the country weighs heavily on theoverall economic activitybut its strong fundamentals provide optimismfor the medium term.The FDI inflow increased 27 per cent to $64 billion in 2020 from $51 billion in 2019, drivenby acquisitions in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry, according to theWorld Investment Report 2021 by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD),The global FDI flows have been severely hit by COVID-19and plungedby 35 per cent in 2020 to $1 trillion from a high mark of $1.5 trillion the previous year.In April 2021, Mauritius wasthe top investing country with 24 per cent of the FDI equity inflows, followed by Singapore at 21 per centand Japan at 11 per cent, according to commerce ministry data released today.The computer software andhardware emerged as the top sector during the month, witharound 24 per centshare of the total FDI equity inflow followed by the services sector at 23 per cent and the education sector at eight per cent.Karnataka became the top recipient state during the month, with a31 per cent share of the total FDI equity inflows, followed by Maharashtra with 19 per cent and Delhi with 15 per cent.
