Market Now: Telecom index up; Bharti Infratel jumps 2%

NEW DELHI: The BSE Telecom index was trading 0.84 per cent up at 1,317 around 11:05 am (IST) on Friday with Bharti Infratel (up 1.99 per
cent) as the top gainer. GTPL Hathway (up 1.45 per cent), Reliance Communications (up 1.35 per cent), Idea Cellular (up 1.30 per cent), GTL
(up 1.14 per cent), Himachal Futuristic Communications (up 1.07 per cent), Tejas Networks (up 0.98 per cent), Vindhya Telelinks (up 0.70 per
cent), Bharti Airtel (up 0.58 per cent) and Aksh Optifibre (up 0.40 per cent) were also trading with gains. On the other hand, GTL
Infrastructure (down 2.79 per cent), OnMobile Global (down 1.79 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 1.14 per cent), MTNL (down
0.73 per cent), ITI (down 0.53 per cent), Sterlite Technologies (down 0.47 per cent) and Tata Communications (down 0.16 per cent) were in
the red in the telecom index around the same time. Equity benchmarks were in the positive terrain tracking global cues
Investor sentiment got a boost after industrial production grew faster than 7 per cent for the fourth month running in February while
consumer inflation moderated to a five-month low in March, providing a double boost for the economy
IIP growth was 7.4 per cent in January while consumer inflation stood at 4.44 per cent in February
The BSE Sensex was up 167 points at 34,268, while the NSE Nifty50 index was up 48 points at 10,507
Among the 31 stocks in the Sensex index, 27 were in the green, while only 3 -- Hindustan Unilever, Larsen Toubro and State Bank of India
-- were in the red.
