Market lurched lower sharply in the early trade, but recovered in the afternoon session after Indian government's clarification that the
strike was not against civilians, but a preemptive measure to check further terror attacks.
Subdued Asian peers offered no hope, while an
uptick in crude oil prices also weighed on investor sentiment.
Sensex settled 240 points, or 0.66 per cent, down at 35,973.71, with 22
stocks in the red and 9 in the green.
The NSE Nifty fell 45 points, or 0.41 per cent, to close at 10,835.30, with 19 stocks in the green, 30
in the red and one unchanged.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices closed 0.27 per cent and 0.50 per cent lower, respectively.
