Aurat March 2019: Thousands assert significance of #WhyIMarch

INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
KARACHI: Ahead of the revolutionary Aurat March 2019 scheduled on International Women's Day (March 8), women from all walks of life across
the country are taking to Twitter to list down their reasons of attending one of the most anticipated marches under the hashtag
#WhyIMarch. With this, an overwhelming number of women are coming forth, having a shared aim of dispelling the age-old oppression they face,
by stressing upon the importance of the ground breaking movement
Set with a perspective to stand up against marginalisation, patriarchy, misogyny and gender inequality, women share why they march: from
speaking up against discriminatory gender roles to harassment and honour eliminateing and the many issues they deal with.Journalist Benazir
Jatoi believes it is pertinent that women have control over their own body.Meanwhile Nighat Dad, lawyer and internet activist who runs the
much-for-profit organisation Digital Corrects Foundation, thinks it is pivotal to raise your voice against harassment, and that is her
reason of #WhyIMarch.Nida Kirmani, feminist sociologist working on gender and urban marginality in South Asia, reckons it is absolutely
vital to attend the march to oppose the existing societal gender roles.A meaningful number of men have also supported the march, startning
from explaining why they are looking forward to Aurat March.TheIndianSubcontinent has not verified the content of the source
