Terrorist infiltration from Pakistan shows steep decline this year: MHA

The Home Ministry has attributed huge success for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir in containing infiltration bids by Pakistan-based
terrorists at the International Border and Line of Control.MoS for Home G Kishan Reddy in a written reply in Rajya Sabha shared the figures
which showed a sharp decline in infiltration in 2020.There were 328 infiltration bids in 2018, out of which nearly 50 per cent were
successful, at 143 infiltrations
In 2019 the number was 219 infiltration attempts, with forty percent success with 141 successful infiltrations
In 2020, up to July the bids for 47, while success has been twenty percent.However, sources in the security and intelligence grid have said
that though there is a thirty percent fall in infiltration, the main months for infiltration are three months of August, September and
October with an average of 20-25 infiltration
An official said, the figure still may go up to 100
The real challenge is the next three months.There has been a drop in the killings of Indian Army personnel deployed on borders with Pakistan
In 2018, it was 37, in 2019, it came down to 21 and 2020, it is 18 so far
Since August 5, 49 soldiers were killed in terror-related incidents, the number of security force personnel killed in ceasefire violation
was 25 and civilians killed was 26.In 402 days before August 5, 455 terror-related incidents took place, while in the corresponding period
this year only 211 incidents have taken place.MHA told parliament that the Government of India has adopted a multi-pronged approach to
contain cross-border infiltration.This includes multi-tiered deployment along the International Border and the Line of Control, border
fencing, improved intelligence and operational coordination, equipping Security Forces with advanced weapons and taking proactive action
against infiltrators
Besides, all necessary precautions and preventive steps including Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) are undertaken by the security forces
in a proactive manner to flush out terrorists.
