Government Mandates Energy Accounting For Circulation Companies

Power Ministry has mandated energy accounting for circulation companiesPower Ministry has made energy accounting of circulation companies
obligatory, in order to lower electricity losses and the regulations regarding this have been issued by the Bureau of Energy Performance
(BEE)
In a statement the Power Ministry said that the step has been revealed as part of the federal government's power reforms and energy
accounting will be done on a quarterly basis by distribution companies.The ministry has said that energy accounting will need to be done
through a licensed energy manager within 60 days
Apart from this, there will also be a yearly energy audit by an independent certified energy auditor and both these reports will be put out
in public domain.These reports will offer details of energy consumption by different classifications of consumers in addition to the
transmission and circulation losses in different areas.It will recognize areas of high losses and theft and make sure corrective
actions.Officials will be held responsible for losses and theft of power from their areas and the exercise will also help circulation
business in minimizing their losses, the statement released by Power Ministry said.These guidelines have been released under the ambit of
the Energy Preservation Act, 2001, with an overall goal to minimize circulation sector inefficiency and losses, hence making circulation
business economically viable.
