Easter attacks- Sri Lanka Catholic Church hails SC order on 5 consisting of Sirisena

The leader of Sri Lankas Catholic Church on Friday applauded a Supreme Court decision to buy the previous president and four officials to
pay compensation for the 2019 Easter Sunday battles that killed more than 260 people.The civil case brought by families of the victims
charged that lax security caused the attacks which targeted three churches and 3 luxury hotels.The church itself was not party to the
lawsuit
Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith told reporters he hoped the case would be intensified versus previous president Maithripala Sirisena and his
leading security authorities
Based on this verdict we expect this case to be taken forward, Cardinal Ranjith stated
Justice for the victims will just occur when the whole reality comes out
This choice is just a milestone in that journey
On Thursday, the Supreme Court ordered Sirisena, his police chief, 2 senior intelligence authorities and a senior defence ministry official
to pay a total of LKR 310 million (about $850,000) from their individual funds as payment to the households of the victims of the battles
who had actually brought the civil case before the court.The court said the previous president and his authorities had actually failed to
prevent the attacks, amongst the worst in Sri Lankas unstable history.Several tourists were also eliminated and more than 500 individuals
injured, mostly belonging to the islands minority Christian community.Sirisena and the others associated with the case have made no public
talk about the ruling and he did not respond to Reuters requests for reaction.In November, Sri Lanka put on trial 24 guys implicated of
carrying out the attacks
Police filed over 23,000 charges versus those suspects, consisting of conspiring to murder, helping and abetting the attacks, and collecting
arms and ammunition.The group consists of Mohammad Naufer, who officials state masterminded the attacks and is linked to Islamic
