Rainy condition over the island to increase today

A minor increase in rainy conditions over the island is anticipated today, the Department of Meteorology says.Several spells of showers will
happen in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Matale districts.Showers or thundershowers will happen at a number of places in
Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-Western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts throughout the afternoon or night
Relatively heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some locations in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara
districtsThe public is kindly requested to take sufficient safety measures to minimize damages triggered by momentary localized strong winds
and lightning during thundershowers.Sea locations: Several spells of showers will occur in the sea area off the coast extending from
Pottuvil to Mullaitivu by means of Batticaloa and Trincomalee.Showers or thundershowers will happen at a few locations over the other sea
areas around the Island during the evening or night.Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph
Wind speed may increase approximately 40-50 kmph sometimes in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Colombo by means of
Puttalam and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.The sea locations off the coast extending from Mannar to Colombo by means of Puttalam and
from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times.Temporarily strong gusty winds and extremely rough seas can be expected during
thundershowers.
