Stock market update: Nifty FMCG top sectoral gainer; ITC surges 4%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty FMCG index was trading as the top sectoral gainer on NSE in morning trade on Monday. Around 10:50 am, the FMCG index
was trading 2.04 per cent up at 29,879, buoyed by gains in ITC (up 4.01 per cent) and Godrej Consumer Products (up 3.11 per cent). Shares of
ITC surged after the GST council in its meet on Saturday did not revise the cess on cigarettes
Shares of Procter Gamble Hygiene Healthcare (up 1.54 per cent), Emami (up 1.05 per cent), Hindustan Unilever (up 0.84 per cent),
Colgate-Palmolive (India) (up 0.58 per cent), Dabur India (up 0.35 per cent) and Britannia Industries (up 0.26 per cent) too were trading
with gains. However, Jubilant Foodworks (down 2.18 per cent), United Breweries (down 1.06 per cent), Godrej Industries (down 0.90 per cent),
Marico (down 0.75 per cent), GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (down 0.56 per cent) and United Spirits (down 0.26 per cent) were incurring
losses around that time. Equity markets were in the positive terrain on buying in bank and FMCG stocks. ITC, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank and
Asian Paints were the drivers of rally in Sensex amid mixed Asian cues
However, losses in HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries and Hero MotoCorp cooled off bourses a little. Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 30
points at 11,040, while the BSE Sensex was up 79 points at 36,576. Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 31 were trading in the green,
while 18 were in the red
UPL, ITC, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints and Adani Ports SEZ were leading among Nifty gainers. However, Hero MotoCorp, Wipro, Bajaj Auto,
Tech Mahindra and Indiabulls Housing Finance were among the top losers in the Nifty index.
