Kedarnath trek mules forced to 'smoke' weed, netizens fume

DEHRADUN: Are mules that carry pilgrims and heavy consignments on the tough Kedarnath trek route being given weed to numb their senses so
that they can be made to work harder and longer? Two viral posts that have received thousands of shocked responses across social media
platforms would suggest so.In one such post on Instagram, the video shows a terrified mule being forced to inhale what's probably weed
stuffed in a cigarette as a man, possibly its owner, closes the animal's mouth so that it has no option but to breathe in the
smoke.Uttarakhand police took cognisance of videos purportedly showing mules being forced to inhale weed and on Saturday arrested one of the
owners, Rakesh Singh Rawat, from Guptkashi area of Rudraprayag district (where the Kedarnath shrine is)
Rawat has been charged under relevant sections of the IPC and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act
viral video and found the incident had happened at Tharu Camp near Choti Lincholi area, which falls on the trek route to Kedarnath
work long hours, left in the sun and intoxicated to make them take as many trips as possible.
