Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code draft 'almost final'

five-member panel headed by retired Supreme Court judge, Justice Ranjana Desai, which is mandated to draft the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in
Uttarakhand, is now ready with the documentation
In a meeting that spanned more than 10 hours on Wednesday, crucial aspects of the UCC were discussed and finalised, officials told TOI.The
draft will be sent for printing soon, it is learnt, and subsequently, a copy of the draft is expected to be handed over to the state
government.Shatrughan Singh, former chief secretary of Uttarakhand and a panel member of the UCC committee, said, "The draft is almost
final, and we expect to submit it to the government within a week or two."Speaking about the UCC, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "Once we get
a copy of the draft, we will initiate the process of implementing the UCC in our state." Once implemented, Uttarakhand will become the first
state to adopt the UCC after Independence
Before Independence, it was implemented in Goa.
