Hyderabad: 2,800 booked for drunken driving in June

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad traffic police have filed chargesheets against 4,321 persons - 2,818 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 885
for driving without a licence and other violations - after conducting an enforcement drive in June
They have filed chargesheets against people caught for various violations last month which include improper number plate, drunk driving,
minor driving, driving without a licence etc
Courts had even handed out prison sentences to 400 violators
Of them, two persons were given seven-day imprisonment, while a majority, 162, received two-day jail
Driving licences of 44 persons were suspended as well
Also, 203 minor drivers were caught
Of them, 195, including owners of vehicles, received sentences
The courts imposed a fine of 93.19 lakh fine against 3,921 respondents
"All the violators sentenced for imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda Jail
Those convicted of drunken driving and other traffic violations may face difficulties in getting government jobs, passport and visa
clearance," Hyderabad traffic police said in an official release
Also, the violators who committed the offence received counselling at Traffic Training Institutes at Goshamahal and Begumpet
"The drive against drunken driving and other violations will continue for the safety of the commuters on the road
Hyderabad Traffic police requests all the motorists not to drive the vehicle under drunken conditions," the release added.Police stated that
they have increased the enforcement drive after a series of horrific accidents caused by negligent driving and speeding
In the last three days, four persons died on the spot while two others sustained critical injuries owing to speeding
Three of them happened to be pedestrians and
Three of these incidents were captured on CCTV cameras, which went viral on social media
