IITB names Main Building after its alumnus Nilekani

MUMBAI: To recognise Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani's philanthropic support towards the institute, IIT-Bombay has dedicated its iconic
Main Building to him
The building has been renamed as the Nandan Nilekani Main Building
The announcement was made during a special felicitation event on Wednesday
Nilekani had recently donated Rs 315 crore to the institute for its development and to mark 50 years of his association with it
He had joined IIT-Bombay as a student of B Tech (electrical engineering) in 1973.The five-storeyed building on the Powai campus, which
houses the offices of all the institute functionaries and administrative offices, was hitherto called the Main Building since it was
built.Nilekani, responding to the recognition, said, "I am deeply grateful to the board of governors of IIT-Bombay for this incredible
honour
IIT-Bombay has immeasurably shaped my life, and I acknowledge the contributions of the team at the institute, alumni and everyone else who
has enabled me to give forward to the institute
I dedicate this honour to every student who walks by the iconic building."Director Subhasis Chaudhuri said that the institute is always
striving to develop socially impactful technology innovations towards building research and academic excellence that will drive the next
phase of India's growth and self-reliance
Nilekani's recent donation took his total contribution to his alma mater to Rs 400 crore, the highest-ever single private donation in the
IIT system.
