Boy, 8, 'starved to death' by grandma in Bijnor

BIJNOR: Police have detained the father of an eight-year-old boy who allegedly died due to starvation in the Kotwali region of Bijnor on
Tuesday night
According to police, Arif had married Shama Parveen 12 years ago, but owing to domestic strife, his family had thrown her out of the house
four years back
Parveen has been residing at her maternal house at Julahan Mohalla in the city since then
Meanwhile, the two children were put under the care of their grandmother Bundiya Bano, as Arif worked in hotel in Delhi.Parveen alleged in
her complaint that Arif and his mother used to lock her sons Samad (8) and Arsh (12) in a room for hours and even days at a stretch
They were not provided with food during that time
Mohd Shahnawaz, Parveen's brother, said, "The grandmother would not allow the children to meet us and often thrashed them and locked them
up for days
This time, she locked them for four days

Bano and said that the children were not given food
On the other hand, Arif said that Samad had some health issues
