UTTARKASHI: A bailey bridge located over Chorgad river at Nelong valley region of Gangotri national park (GNP) in Uttarkashi district has
collapsed after its embankment got washed away due to the recent heavy rainfall.As per sources, the footbridge is important for the Indian
Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) as it connects Uttarkashi to the Indo-China border via Himachal Pradesh, and is used for
Forest guards and local shepherds also use the bridge.RN Pandey, deputy director, GNP, said, "The bridge collapsed some days back due to
flooding in Chorgad river
Reconstruction of the bridge will be started soon."
