[India] - IIT-Bombay gets Rs 160 crore from confidential donor

MUMBAI: The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay has received its first ever anonymous donation of Rs 160 crore

a time when the institution has been hit by budget cuts and is taking loans from the Higher Education Financial Agency (HEFA) for expansion
The donated funds will go towards setting up a Green Energy and Sustainability Research hub (GESR) on campus
in critical areas, including battery technologies, solar photovoltaics, biofuels, clean-air science, flood forecasting, and carbon
capture.The Green hub on the campus will offer industry-tailored training and cultivate collaborations with global universities and
corporations
The objective is to drive practical and transformative solutions while nurturing entrepreneurship in green energy and sustainability, said
professor Chaudhuri
To be located within a state-of-the-art academic building on the IIT Bombay campus, the focus will include evaluating climate risks,
developing effective mitigation strategies, climate change adaptation, and comprehensive environmental monitoring.
