ASI: Need 15 more days to file Gyanvapi report

INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
VARANASI: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Friday sought another 15 days to submit a report of its scientific study and survey of
the Gyanvapi Complex.Maintaining that it needed more time to complete the compilation process, the ASI submitted an application before the
court of the district judge
The court will hear the plea on Saturday (November 18), said Amit Srivastava, standing government counsel.Earlier, on July 21, the court had
ordered a survey - on the plea of four women plaintiffs - to ascertain whether the Gyanvapi mosque was built on the remains of a temple. In
compliance with the order, the ASI had started its scientific study of the Gyanvapi mosque on July 24.However, the Anjuman Intezamia Masajid
(AIM), the mosque management committee, had filed a revision petition before the Allahabad HC
On July 24, the HC had halted the ASI survey but on August 3 dismissed AIM's objection against the district judge's order. The AIM had then
moved the SC, which refused reprieve
The ASI resumed its survey on August 4
The ASI has sought deadline extensions thrice - on August 5, September 8 and October 5
After completing its study in the field at the Gyanvapi mosque, the ASI had on November 2 sought 15 days to prepare its report, which was
granted by the court
The ASI on November 6 had deposited in the treasury, under the supervision of the district magistrate, around 270 stone pieces and other
articles found in the debris during its scientific study and survey.
