KOLKATA: Anirban Ray, a senior IPS officer, was on Sunday escorted out of the NSCBI Airport and slapped with penal charges after he
misbehaved with police, airlines staffers and air-port officials.Ray, police said, created a ruckus in the airport departure lounge
He was booked under IPC sections for voluntarily causing hurt (323), wrongful restraint (341), causing public mischief (505) and criminal
intimidation (506).All these penal charges are bailable.DCP (Airport), Aishwarya Sagar, said appropriate legal action has initiated based on
complaints.According to sources, Ray, a 1998-batch IPS officer, and now the additional director-general (provisioning) with the state
police, had reached the airport to take a flight from Kolkata to Delhi
According to sources he had not only misbehaved with the officials, he also threatened and shoved them
Some sources claimed that Ray got agitated after being asked to pay more for additional luggage.It is learnt that both the airline officials
and the airport authorities immediately informed police
Ray was also ordered to be "offloaded" from the flight and asked to leave the airport
He was then escorted out in a wheelchair and handed over to state police
It is not learnt whether he was taken to his official residence, or to the police station.When escorted out of the airport, Ray was wearing
The airport authorities and the airlines did not issue any formal statement in this regard."He was unnaturally volatile and aggressive
He also threatened and intimidated when informed of the airport regulations
The police are also aware of the developments
