Errant authorities penalized, asked to serve handicapped students for 5 days

NEW DELHI: In a rare kind of punishment meted out by the Court of the Chief Commissioner of Persons with Disabilities, officials found
responsible for delaying by four years the updation of the category of a Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd employee from general to PwD will
taken strong exception to the fact that it took four years to just change the category of the complainant from general to person with
disability (PwD)
The court in a hearing earlier this month asked MTNL to identify the officials responsible for the delay and send them to Amar Jyoti
The CCPD has also set a deadline of December 31 for completing this service
A report has also been sought in the matter.According to the complaint made to CCPD earlier this year, the complainant working at MTNL
stated that he has permanent 60% locomotor disability
He was recruited in the general category through open competition but was not disabled at that time
His condition progressed to become a full fledged locomotor disability over time and he also got a certificate for the same from AIIMS
He conveyed this to his office during rotational transfer in 2009
According to the complaint, later in 2019, he put up an application seeking change in category from general to PwD but no action was taken.
