Uganda develop history, qualify for 2024 T20 World Cup

NEW DELHI: Uganda made history as they qualified for the 2024 men's T20 World Cup after defeating Rwanda in the last round of matches in
the Africa leg of the qualifiers
Uganda became the second team to qualify alongside Namibia.Securing an impressive five wins out of six games, Uganda guaranteed a top-two
position in the T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier, earning them a coveted spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in West Indies and
USA.This achievement marks Uganda's maiden appearance in any ICC World Cup event, showcasing their rising prowess in international
cricket.Uganda defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets on Sunday for their first ever win over a Full Member team in a T20 international, and
followed that up by dismissing Rwanda for 65 then reaching the target in 8.1 overs while losing just one wicket in Windhoek, Namibia.Uganda
will become the fifth African nation to play in the T20 World Cup.On the other hand, Africa Qualifier favourite Zimbabwe failed to secure a
berth
Zimbabwe are currently placed third in the regional final with six points, having won three of their five games.Namibia also advanced
through African qualifying to complete a lineup of teams that also contains Oman, Nepal, Papua New Guinea and Canada
The United States qualified through being a host country.Uganda have been an associate member of the ICC since 1998 but does not have Test
or ODI status.
