Petition filed by Harak Kata fixed for consideration

INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
The Supreme Court has fixed for consideration a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by notorious underworld figure, Nadun Chinthaka alias
Department (CID), on July 11, 2024.The petition filed by the infamous criminal figure, who is currently detained in the custody of the CID,
was taken up today (11), before a three-member Supreme Court judge bench chaired by Justice Preethi Padman Surasena.Deputy Solicitor General
Shanil Kularatne, who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General (AG), informed the court that the revised petition relating to the case has
not been received by the AG so far.Accordingly, the judge bench which ordered the petitioning party to take steps to submit a copy of the
revised petition to the Deputy Solicitor General, ordered the petition to be taken up for consideration on July 11.The petitioner, who seeks
a ruling that the CID has violated his fundamental rights by detaining him without any fair evidence, also requests for an order
invalidating the detention order issued to keep him in the custody of the CID.A group including the Director of the CID have been named as
the respondents of the relevant petition.
