Colombo Stock Exchange rebounds after New Year vacation

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) resumed for trading today (16) after the long New Year weekend, posting notable gains in key indices in
spite of controlled market activity.The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) rose by 99.68 points, closing at 15,625.88, while the S&P
SL20 Index which tracks the performance of 20 leading companies increased by 29.95 indicate 4,644.49
In spite of the positive momentum in cost indices, general market turnover stayed substantially low.The days turnover was taped at Rs
792 million, a sharp decrease compared to the levels seen in current trading sessions.Local financier activity dominated the day, with
regional purchases totaling up to Rs
781 million and regional sales at Rs
730 million.In contrast, foreign investor participation stayed minimal, with foreign purchases tape-recorded at simply Rs
11 million, while foreign sales totaled Rs
61 million.
