INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) states that it will start accepting oral public discuss the second electrical power
tariff modification proposed by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for 2025, starting tomorrow (May 23)
According to PUCSL Communications Director Jayanath Herath, public hearings will be held across all provinces and will continue till June 3,
allowing customers to express their views on the proposed changes. The CEB recently sent its most current tariff proposition for the 2nd half
of the year to the PUCSL
In a statement, CEB Media Spokesperson, Engineer Dhammika Wimalaratne, acknowledged that the proposed revision would lead to an increase in
electrical power tariffs
He stressed that the new rates would stay lower than those implemented earlier this year.Wimalaratne even more noted that regardless of a
steady increase in the expense of electrical power generation, transmission, and circulation from 2014 to 2022, electrical energy tariffs
stayed unchanged during that duration
He also highlighted that the CEB has actually been facing increased expenditures due to rising rates of fuel, coal, extra parts, and
maintenance.
