Stock market update: Nifty FMCG index climbs 1%; ITC, HUL play ball

NEW DELHI: Gains in shares of United Spirits (up 2.64 per cent), United Breweries (up 2.25 per cent) and ITC (up 1.45 per cent) were keeping
the Nifty FMCG index in the green during Thursday's session. The Nifty FMCG index was trading 0.93 per cent up at 32,731 around 11 am
Shares of Marico (up 1.44 per cent), GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (up 1.05 per cent), Jubilant Foodworks (up 0.75 per cent),
Hindustan Unilever (HUL) (up 0.66 per cent), Emami (up 0.52 per cent), Dabur India (up 0.39 per cent), Godrej Industries (up 0.35 per cent),
Colgate-Palmolive (India) (up 0.19 per cent) and Tata Global Beverages (up 0.13 per cent) too were among the gainers. However, Procter
Gamble Hygiene Healthcare (down 0.92 per cent), Godrej Consumer Products (down 0.63 per cent) and Britannia Industries (down 0.37 per cent)
were trading in the negative territory around that time
Equity market sentiment was subdued on the last day of August series of futures and options contracts
Rupee's unabated fall too weighed on the risk appetite of investors
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 21.10 points at 11,670.8, while the BSE Sensex was 32.12 points down at 38,690.81
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 21 were trading in the green, while 29 were in the red
Tata Steel, UPL, ITC, Bharti Airtel and ONGC were among the top gainers, while HPCL, YES Bank, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies and Reliance
Industries were among the top losers in the Nifty index.
