Tens of thousands of Palestinians have returned home to the most heavily bombarded part of the Gaza Strip as Israel lifted its closure of the north.
It is the first time the region has been reopened since the early weeks of Israel's 15-month war with Hamas, in accordance with a fragile ceasefire.
