Delhi government in an order on Monday asked auto-rickshaw and cabby in the city to use a uniform while driving, alerting them of heavy fines if they stop working to comply, and suspension of licence for repeat wrongdoers.
Under section 66 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 every taxi and automobile rickshaw is needed to obtain the authorization to ply on road.
The permit is governed with certain conditions, prominent among them is that an individual will not drive a car without using suitable uniform as prescribed, stated an order released by the Transport department of Delhi government.
The cars and taxi unions said they were ready to follow the order, but also prompted the federal government to decrease the Rs 10,000 fine.
A transport official said that initially the focus will be on creating awareness among drivers to wear uniforms as the citys going to host the G20 top and the government does not wish to give a bad impression.
All the chauffeurs of taxi and vehicle rickshaw are thus directed not to drive the lorry, without wearing recommended uniform, stopping working which challan will be released for infraction of authorization condition, the Monday order read.
The habitual offender may deal with rigid action for not wearing consistent ranging from heavy challan together with either suspension or cancellation of driving licence or registration of lorry, as deemed fit, it specified.

Rajinder Soni, basic secretary of Delhi Autorickshaw Sangh, said that the uniform will offer the motorists an identity.
