GUWAHATI: Chief minister Biren Singh on Monday appealed to Kuki militants in ceasefire and and also Meitei people with arms to refrain from violence to restore peace in Manipur even as an Army jawan was injured in firing by unidentified gunmen in the Leimakhong area near the headquarters' of 57th Mountain Division in Imphal West district late Sunday night after miscreants set fire to at least five houses in the vicinity."These acts must stop.
Mainly the SoO Kuki militants (in ceasefire) should stop it otherwise they will face the consequences.
I also appeal to the Meitei people, who are with arms, not to attack anything, maintain peace so that we can restore normalcy in Manipur," warned Biren.Will build prefabricated houses for displaced: Manipur CMArmys 3rd Corps, in a tweet, said, Armed miscreants resorted to unprovoked firing from Kanto Sabal towards Chingmang village during the night of 18/19 June.
Army columns resorted to controlled retaliatory fire keeping in view of the presence of villagers in the area.
One Army soldier sustained a gunshot wound, evacuated to Military Hospital Leimakhong and is stable.
Additional columns inducted in the area and joint operations are in progress.Biren said, Around 1.30 am, I got the information and I immediately contacted the Army.
An Army Colonel assured me of looking into the incident and later informed me that he called the fire tenders and the fire had been doused.
He added, But I am thinking how the fire broke out in such a high security area (around the headquarters of the Armys 57th Mountain Division).
At the security review meeting, I will find out how it happened and how such things can be prevented in future.
These acts must stop.
Stop it or you will face the consequences, Singh said.Singh also appealed to all the people of the state not to cause any trouble for the functioning of education and health sectors.
The state government has decided to resume normal classes for students upto Class 8 from Wednesday.I have visited some relief camps and I have seen that people are suffering.
The state government is going to construct prefabricated houses to accommodate them temporarily till a permanent arrangement is made to shift them to their previous places, the chief minister said.
