PRAYAGRAJ: This Shrawan, saffron T-shirts with images of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and that of bulldozers are in huge demand among kanwariyas in Sangam city.With the number of kanwariyas swelling every passing day during the ongoing holy month of Shrawan, the sale of such t-shirts has increased manifold at shops near Daraganj and Sangam areas.
Sellers claim that looking at the demand, they have placed advanced orders.The bulldozer that is usually seen as a tool of destruction has become a symbol of good governance in Uttar Pradesh ever since Yogi Adityanath used it to demolish alleged illegal structures.A shopkeeper selling kanwar yatra merchandise, Rajesh said: T-shirts with image of Yogi and bulldozer are in huge demand.
I have sold hundreds of them so far and have ordered more since queries keep coming in.
Every year, there is a demand for apparels, especially T-shirts, during Shrawan among the devotees following which, we order special Tshirt designs.
As bulldozers are very popular nowadays, we decided to bring more Tshirts with the same design and print, he added.
Sellers say the Tees are being brought from Delhi, Ghaziabad and Saharanpur.
Moreover, young kanwariyas want all items during the kanwar yatra to be of saffron colour.
On Thursday, many kanwariyas wearing T-shirts with images of Yogi Adityanath and bulldozers started their journey from Daraganj ghat.
Devotees are also getting tattoos of religious symbols like Om, Mahadev, Trishool, Shivlinga inked before beginning the kanwar yatra.
Religious scholar Amitabh Gour said: Apart from saffron attire, a section of devotees prefer to get symbols related to the lord inked on their bodies.
For them, tattoos and face paintings are a way and form of devotion.
