Samir Kochhar and businessman Varun Bangera, Karishma Tannas husband, filed an FIR against architect and builder Pronit Nath and his wife Amisha at the Andheri Police Station.
Samir and Varun, who had purchased two flats in Bandra for commercial purposes in 2020, say they have been cheated.
Samir said, Varun and I wanted an office space and we purchased flats from Pronit Nath and his wife Amisha.He had told us that the building would be ready in a year, but it took three years.
Then, he sent us a message saying that he didnt need to sell the office anymore and we could take our money back! We told him that we were not moneylenders and he should return our money with due interest.
We waited for him to revert, but instead, he sent us legal notices.
So, we took the legal route.
We also found out that he had sold the same space to a third party; hence, we approached the police and filed an FIR.
The way we were cheated was shocking.Varun Bangera added, We trust our legal system.
One cant cheat someone and get away with it.
We dont want others to go through something like this.
As per their complaint, Samir had paid Pronit ` 58.5 lakh and Varun had paid ` 44.7 after they signed the MOU on March 30, 2021.Deputy Commissioner of Police Datta K Nalawade said, Pronit Nath has been booked under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant or by a banker, merchant or agent) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
