BENGALURU: The income tax department will, on November 28, auction 12 high-end and luxury vehicles owned by alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, as part of a larger effort to recover the Rs 308.4 crore he owes to government agencies.According to an auction notice, the cars to be auctioned online by the Bengaluru branch are Rolls Royce, Bentley, Range Rover, Lamborghini, Jaguar XKR Coupe, BMW M5, Toyota Prado, Innova Crysta, Toyota Fortuner, Nissan Teana, and Porsche.The notice shows one bike, a Ducati Diavel.
"These movable properties will be sold by public auction through e-auction by MSTC Limited on behalf of the income tax department on 'as is where is and what is there is basis' for recovery of the certificate of Rs 308.4 crore due as on November 10, 2023...," the notice, issued byTarun Kumar Sharma, tax recovery officer (central), Bengaluru, reads.The reserve price for the Rolls Royce is more than Rs 1.7 crore, while that of all other vehicles put together is a little over Rs 2.7 crore.
After the Rolls Royce, the highest reserve price is for the Bentley (Rs 83.3 lakh), while the cheapest vehicle is the Ducati (Rs 3.5 lakh).
The auction, as of Thursday, is scheduled for noon on November 28.Chandrashekhar, lodged in a Delhi jail, has been accused of impersonating multiple people to extort about Rs 200 crore from various individuals, including the wives of promoters of big firms.
His case is also being probed by the directorate of enforcement (ED), which is looking into money laundering charges.The vehicles the I-T department is auctioning were seized from various parts of the country.
