TEHRAN Shina Ansari, the head of the Department of Environment, represents the country in the 11th BRICS Environment Working Group (EWG) conferences, which are occurring in Brazil.
Advancing Environmental Cooperation among BRICS towards Sustainable Development and a Just Transition for All is the style of the two-day event.The BRICS EWG, developed in 2015, functions as a platform for BRICS member countries to resolve essential ecological difficulties and foster cooperation through discussion, shared experiences, and the exchange of info and bestpractices.The EWG assembles annually within the structure of the BRICS Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) on Environmental Cooperation, signed by the BRICS Environment Ministers in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2018.
This MoU determines key top priority locations for cooperation, including air quality, water, biodiversity, environment change, waste management, and the execution of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.Additional areas might be included by the individuals shared agreement.A Plan of Implementation for 20232027 was developed to translate the EWG commitments into actionable outcomes.
This Plan offers a structured roadmap for boosting ecological coordination and cooperation amongst member countries while supporting their compliance with national and worldwide environmental conventions.The EWG plays a critical role in this process, overseeing the efficient execution of the MoU.
As the existing chair, Brazil intends to enhance the execution of this Plan to foster action-oriented cooperation.In 2024, the EWG introduced the Contact Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development (BRICS+ CGCCSD) and started a High-Level Dialogue on Climate Change.On the sidelines of the conferences, Ansari visited the effective ecological tasks of local neighborhoods in Brasilia and applauded the function of indigenous communities in environmental protection.
