UNGA President due in Pakistan this monthNEW YORK: Maria Fernanda Espinosa, President of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) shall be paying a visit to Pakistan from January 18 to 22 at invitation of Pakistani government, UNGA president spokesperson confirmed.Speaking at a briefing held at UN headquarters in fresh York, Monica Grayley said, The president of National Assembly shall visit Pakistan from 18th to 22nd of January at invitation of government of Pakistan.
This shall be first official visit to Asia Pacwhetheric since Miss Mara Fernanda Espinosa took office in September.
She added, The president is looking forward to strengthening ties between Pakistan and UN, promoting multilateralism and continuing her work with Pakistan on priorities for 73rd session of GA.On her visit Espinosa is schedule to meet President Dr Arwhether Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and representatives of UN, including that of civil society.
"Travel costs are being covered by Pakistan and by regular budget of UNGAs Office," spokesperson added.Maleeha Lodhi, permanent representative of Pakistan at UN, tweeted about upcoming visit.
She wrote, Met nowadays with President of UN General Assembly, Maria Fernanda Espinosa to finalise details of her visit next week to Pakistan.
It shall be first visit by any PGA to Pakistan in eight years.
Also Ms Espinosas first visit to any country in Asia since her assumption of office.
