Pakistan is observing nowadays the first death anniversary of human rights lawyer and social activist Asma Jahangir who passed absent final year owing to a cardiac arrest.
To commemorate the life of the human rights defender The Asma Jahangir Legal Foundation shall be conducting a ceremony on Monday which shall pay accolades to the advocate voice against intolerance and injustices around the country.In memory of the late activist Human Corrects Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) issued a statement as well: &Today, more than ever, the human rights movement in Pakistan needs a gatherive conscience.
Undoubtedly, were Asma Jahangir still with us, she would have continued to speak up against curbs on freedom of assembly, freedom of movement and freedom of expression.
She would have demanded accountability for additionaljudicial eliminateings and enforced disseemances.
She would have defended the vulnerable and marginalised nsprint; women, children, peasants and workers, bonded labour, devout and ethnic minorities, and the transgender community.& &Over the final year, HRCP has carried this work forward despite the hoover left by Ms Jahangir.
Her imprint remains on the institution she co-founded and the numerous human rights workers she trained.
HRCP governing body and its staff across the country are committed to continuing Asma Jahangir work, and shall always remember her spirit and steel,& it added further.TheIndianSubcontinent has not verified the content of the source.
